OSAMA
BIN LADEN'S
2006/07 BOOK
CLUB SELECTIONS Book club members were extremely pleased with Osama's
first selection, William Blum's ROGUE STATE.
We found it to be a concise yet devastating account of U.S.-sponsored
skullduggery, assassination, and massacres around the world, all
done in the service of U.S. capital and its imperial interests.
The book is an excellent response to the question, "Why
do they hate us?" While we're waiting for Osama's next selection,
members of the book club have offered these suggestions:
A People's History of the United States,
by Howard Zinn
This modern classic on the history of the United States demonstrates
that right here at home people of color, workers, women, immigrants,
labor organizers and left activists often get treated just as badly
(and for much the same reasons) as the U.S. mistreats the rest of
the world's people.
The New Pearl Harbor,
by David R. Griffin
Read this book for the truth behind the lies about 9-11. This should
be an exciting selection for our club, especially if Osama decides
to let us in on just who his "silent partners" in Washington
really were.
Lies My Teacher Told Me,
by James W. Loewen
This book will appeal to our younger book club members. Kids, don't
believe those textbook accounts of the glories of U.S. history that
you're getting in elementary, middle and high school. Loewen's endlessly
readable, informative and entertaining book will give you the facts
you need so you can tell your teacher to take that textbook and
shove it.
(Apparently we were not alone in
our appreciation, since Blum's book rocketed up the New York Times
bestseller list the moment Osama plucked it from its undeserved
obscurity.)
Confessions of an Economic Hit Man,
by John Perkins
This recent publication gives a fascinating, lucid account of the
secret technique of U.S. imperial racketeering in Latin America
and points east. According to Perkins, here's how it works: first,
the U.S. sends an economic hit man to visit the head of a little
country (Panama, for example); the hit man says the U.S. wants the
little country's natural resources and labor and wants the country's
government to implement policies to keep its labor poor, oppressed
and cheap; or else, says the hit man, the C.I.A. will begin assasinating
the country's leaders and bombing its population. This technique,
Perkins notes, has been wildly successful.

Special thanks to Safety Coordinator, Dick Cheney for these timely

"What kind of peace do I mean? What
kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world
by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security
of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that
makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations
to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children--not
merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women--not merely
peace in our time but peace for all time."

all over the country are choosing to move their money out of bigger

generally avoided the reckless investments and schemes that helped
cause the financial crisis. Fueled by the personal

potential to shift power in the financial system away from Wall Street

Tuesday, February 16, Final Day to Tell USDA That You Care About GE Contamination of Organic Food! Make you comments here,http://ga3.org/campaign/alfalfaEIS In
2006, the Center for Food Safety (CFS) sued the Department of
Agriculture (USDA) for its illegal approval of Monsanto’s genetically
engineered (GE) Roundup Ready alfalfa. The federal courts sided
with CFS and banned GE alfalfa until the USDA fully analyzed the
impacts of the plant on the environment, farmers, and the public in a
rigorous analysis known as an environmental impact statement (or
EIS). USDA released its draft EIS on December 14, 2009. A
60-day comment period is now open until February 16, 2010. This
is the first time the USDA has done this type of analysis for any GE
crop. Therefore, the final decision will have broad implications
for all GE crops. CFS has begun analyzing the EIS and it is
clear that the USDA has not taken the concerns of non-GE alfalfa
farmers, organic dairies, or consumers seriously. USDA’s
preliminary determination is to once again deregulate GE alfalfa
without any limitations or protections for farmers or the
environment. Instead USDA has completely dismissed the fact
that contamination will threaten export and domestic markets and
organic meat and dairy products. And, incredibly, USDA is
claiming that there is no evidence that consumers care about such GE
contamination of organic! Be HEARD!

On January 21, 2010, with its ruling inCitizens United v. Federal Election Commission,
the Supreme Court ruled that corporations are persons, entitled by the
U.S. Constitution to buy elections and run our government. Human
beings are people; corporations are legal fictions. The Supreme Court
is misguided in principle, and wrong on the law. In a democracy, the
people rule.
We Move to Amend.
We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling inCitizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to:
Firmly
establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not
corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
Guarantee the right to vote and to participate, and to have our votes and participation count.
Protect

another garden was at a private home and the third garden was at the

systems, the larger 30,000 gallon cistern being at the Lagunitas School
campus and the smaller one at the Sustainable Fairfax center.
